Census Frequently asked questions
Confused about something you've seen or heard about the 2020 Census? See our answers below!
What questions does the 2020 Census ask?
The 2020 Census asks questions about you as an individual working in the Australian Sports Industry. We ask about your role within sport, your organisation, and what direction you think the industry is going in.
Is this compulsory?
No. We are an industry body for individuals working in sport, but the census is not compulsory. We would really appreciate it however - every response allows us to represent as many people as possible. This is to drive outcomes for the industry as a whole.
How is census data used?
Census data will help us understand a truly national perspective of the individuals working in the Australian Sports Industry, and will empower everyone in sport - whether they are a graduate in sports management or a long term industry veteran, to have their say and to have their perspective acknowledged. The data will be used to formulate an aggregate report to identify parts of the industry requiring improvement, and to offer a longitudinal academic study of how our industry grows and shapes over time.
Is this anonymous?
Yes. If you provide an email at the end of the census to stay in touch, this is not linked to your response.
Will my information be disclosed to other organisations?
We are committed to keeping individual responses safe and secure. These individual responses are anonymised and will not be provided to other organisations. Aggregate information will be provided to each state sporting federation (Sport NSW, QSport, Sport SA, SportWest, Vicsport) for their analysis with respect to issues in their geographic region. Aggregate information is the same data that is released publically to ASPA members, but will be filtered by geographic region.
How do I receive a paper form?
Unlike a government census, this is only being conducted electronically. We're very committed to sustainability and the environment!
I completed the Census already, why am I still receiving communications?
Thank you for responding. We send invitations and reminders through various channels, organisations and industry bodies. Where possible, and if the respondent provides an email to keep in touch with us, we attempt to remove them from future reminders, though this is not always possible. If you have already responded, the reminder may have been scheduled before we received your response.
